How to Choose Your First Tarot Deck

There is a story that your first deck needs to be a gift. That’s not true. You can buy your own deck. Honestly, go ahead and pick whichever deck speaks most to you. The two links below are the sources I use to purchase my decks.

My advice for beginners:

1. Choose a deck that has imagery that you enjoy. Art is a language in and of itself.
2. Pick one that follows the standard Rider-Waite or Smith-Waite symbolism, to start with.
3. Don’t be afraid to get another deck if you have trouble connecting with it or it doesn’t speak to you.

Should I buy more than one deck?
- Sure if you want to! Comparing the imagery from two different decks can definitely deepen your understanding of the symbolism.

What about Oracle decks?
- Oracle decks are a great companion to Tarot and can be very useful on their own. However many spreads and a lot of the info provided within this membership is designed for Tarot specifically.

What are the different types of tarot decks?
- There are a few main systems of tarot - Rider-Waite, Marseille, and Thoth are the most common. There’s no real benefit to one system over the others- it really is all about how the decks resonate with your own personal energy. The best readings will come from decks that you can truly connect to.
